The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2

At times David was so overwhelmed by his enemies that he felt as if “the cords of death entangled” him. He felt that his end was near. In response, David called on the only one who could help. “I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.”

David displayed great courage based on his trust in God, his rock and deliverer. David had been taught and had learned from experience that the Lord was always present for him. No enemy could separate him from the care of the Lord.

When we know that we depend on God for all good things, as David did, we know that calling on God will help to bring the solutions we need. This doesn’t mean we should ignore emergency services or other kinds of help that are available when we might need them. God provides those resources in our communities for the good of everyone. But realizing that we can rely on God to help us with all our needs is a great comfort today just as it was for David. Let’s be sure to call on God whenever we need help of any kind.

O God, often we forget to look to you for help when we need it. Teach us to lean on you for protection, guidance, and all that we need, knowing you provide all good things. Amen.

Be to us, O Christ, peace to the troubled mind and home to the wanderer. Be as living water for our cleansing, as the song that soothes our sadness, and as the inward voice that directs all our days. Amen. Divine Service, William E. Orchard, 1919

Lord, every time the tide is high, and the gales blow in, we remember you stilled the storm. Bless those surrounded by the sea, with their lives dictated by tides, their goods and produce dependent on ships finding safe harbour.
Every time the tractor ploughs the field, and the picker gathers the crop, we remember you sow seeds of life. Bless those surrounded by agriculture, with their lives dictated by the seasons, their goods and produce dependent on the weather and the land.
Every time we see a plane in flight and turn our heads to the sky, we remember you made us your children. Bless those who fly, with their lives dictated by the winds and fog, our goods and produce flying through the heavens to find their way to our homes. Amen.

Loving God, May this moment be to us a time of blessing, a time to pause,
to thank you for all the good things you give us, to delight in your goodness around us. Open our hearts and minds to your presence that we may be a blessing to all whom we meet today. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
May God hold you in his love and fill you with his peace today and every day. Amen. Canterbury Cathedral Prayer.

Gracious God, We know that your love is infinite and that you care about all areas of our life.  In this time of economic insecurity, help us to trust that all  our security is in you.  Keep us mindful that you always have and always will provide for our needs.   Apart from you we can do nothing.

Merciful God, We ask you to give our leaders the wisdom to guide our nation and the world out of the current economic crisis.   Help us to protect the poor and all those who are struggling during this difficult time.  Provide for their needs and give them hope.  Open new opportunities for them and furnish the resources they need to live with dignity.  Encourage those who have enough to share essential resources with those who lack the necessities of life, and to do so with humble, grateful, and loving hearts.  We ask this through Christ, Our Lord.  Amen.
