Proverbs 15:33

The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honour.

Our attitude should be of reverence and an awe of God. We should daily remind ourselves of who He really is, the Creator of the hundreds of billions of galaxies; the sovereign God who inhabits the future as well as the present and the past; the almighty One who dwells in all places, and from whom no thought is hidden; clothed in power, glory, and dominion, He reigns over the cosmos in the beauty of holiness.

Another part of this attitude is humility before our King. The walk of wisdom is the conscious recognition that all we have and are come from God, and that every aspect of our lives needs to be under His dominion. The fool arrogantly vaunts an attitude of independence and autonomy, but the person who is wise lives in dependence and radical trust in the Author and Giver of life. “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). We will grow in wisdom as we daily cultivate the attitude of awe and humility in our walk with God.

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)

Lord, let me always place humility before honour, out of respect and love for You.

For Unity

Father of mercy, your love embraces everyone, and through the Resurrection of your Son you call me and all who pray with me into your wonderful light. Dispel our darkness and make us a people with one heart and one voice, forever singing your praise, in Jesus, the Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

Prayer for the Morning

May all I do today begin with you, O Lord. Plant dreams and hopes within my soul and revive my tired spirit; be with me today. Be at my side and walk with me; be my support, that your hand may be seen in every action I take, that your goodness may be in every word I speak, and that your spirit may inhabit my every thought. Make my thoughts, my work, and my very life blessings for your kingdom.
In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.

Prayer to Live in the Moment

Lord Christ, I have puzzled long and hard over your words, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” But I get the gist of it: we have enough to worry about today. You have tomorrow covered.

Leaving the future in your hands is hard; I want to worry. Please, Lord Christ, show me the way. Teach me to live in the day, in the moment, so that I might focus myself on whatever is at hand.

Thy will be done, my Lord and God; I leave my destiny to your guidance. Help me to surrender myself to you in faith and clear my mind of confusion. Let my attention on your will be undivided, I pray, for my only hope lies in You.
Amen.

Prayer for these difficult days

“Dear friends, let us love one another for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”

Lord, it is easy to become distant, to harden our hearts.
For some of us it is a way of coping with today.
Vulnerability causes pain so we choose to distance ourselves.
Thank you, Lord, that you never become distant or apathetic.
You never grow weary of loving.
Even when we harden our hearts you lean and breath love over us.
We choose today to pray for the weak, the struggling, the suffering, the lowly and the poor of spirit.
May they know your love and mercy today, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
