The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angel. Revelation 3:5

Garments are mentioned many times in the Bible, from the clothing of priests to the clothing of Jesus. The message is clear; our spiritual clothing far exceeds in value our physical clothing. Priests in the Old Testament were dressed very specifically, yet their clothes only served the purpose of obedience to a code of law. As a baby, Jesus, God in the flesh, was wrapped in rags, yet later in life, by just touching the hem of His garment, by faith, one could be healed.

How we dress spiritually is totally dependent on what we do with Jesus. When we have faith in Christ, we too receive His healing. He immediately removes the soiled clothing of sin and exchanges it for pure white garments of forgiveness. Jesus’ clothes were ripped off Him during His beating and crucifixion, allowing us to be spiritually clothed in wedding garments. He died without clothes in shame, so that we could be clothed, counted as worthy.

God tells us that our natural spiritual clothing is not enough. His clothing of righteousness is exclusively designed; made specifically to fit each of us individually. The best part is it’s free! The cost was expensive but paid in full by Christ.

His garment for us is undeserving forgiveness, and life eternal. We should never go back to our old lifestyle, because it would be like trying to sew our old pieces of clothing on His new ones thus spoiling them. Instead, we should wear our garments of praise for the Holy one who was slain and clothes us in His righteousness. ~ Jenny Calvert

Dear Father, Thank you for clothing us in your perfect holiness by the sacrifice of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen

Praise

O thou who coverest thy high places with the waters, Who settest the sand as a bound to the sea And dost uphold all things: The sun sings thy praises, The moon gives thee glory, Every creature offers a hymn to thee, His author and creator, for ever. Amen. Old Eastern Orthodox chant

The Grail Prayer

Lord Jesus, I give you my hands to do your work. I give you my feet to go your way. I give you my eyes to see as you do. I give you my tongue to speak your words. I give you my mind that you may think in me. I give you my spirit that you may pray in me. Above all, I give you my heart that you may love in me your Father and all mankind. I give you my whole self that you may grow in me, so that it is you, Lord Jesus, who live and work and pray in me. Amen.

A Prayer by St Teresa of Ávila (1515-1582)

Let nothing disturb or dismay us, O God, for all things are passing and you alone are unchanging. All things are wrought in patience, O God, and those who possess you lack nothing. Our sufficiency, O God, is in you alone, now and always. Amen.

For the World

This earth, a delicate sphere filled with light and life, all of it yours; a home and safe haven, where life may grow and flourish, all of it yours; a place where rains fall, lightning strikes and the sun shines, all of it yours. This earth, all of it amazing, all lovingly created and all of it yours. We offer you our love, Lord God, and all of it is yours. Amen. Loraine Mellor
