North Queensferry Church

24th. May. 2021. Daily Devotion.

9 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
20 He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.
21 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love   and his wonderful deeds for mankind. Psalm 107:19-21

For those who are going through a time of brokenness in your life, being patient, waiting on God, enduring the pain, doing spiritual therapy, and not giving up hope is the road to a full recovery. It takes a long time to heal when we are broken. God can take the pieces of our lives and put them back into place. Just like a metal plate, screws and a brace may be used on someone’s arm to keep a repair in place, we may need to sit still and be quiet for a while, resting in God so that a healing of our soul can take place.

Going through the recovery period may be painful, but our spiritual therapy of reading God’s word, praying and sitting still to listen to God’s voice will help us to go from the point of brokenness to a place of wholeness. We may have to face some difficult realizations and lay them at Jesus’ feet, including our negative thought of forever staying broken.

God will not let us suffer forever. In time we will look back and remember the pain but know we have grown because of it. Our light and momentary affliction will eventually bring God glory. Through our suffering, we are polished to a brilliance that was not there before the affliction. This can become a shining example to others in a broken state, of hope for healing.

Dearest Lord, Thank you for your healing power. From being broken to becoming whole, in all things, help me to bring glory to you. In Your Name, Amen

 For the Spirit of Prayer

Almighty God, who pours out the spirit of grace and of supplication to all who ask for it; Deliver me, when I draw near to you, from coldness of heart and wanderings of mind, so that with steadfast thoughts and kindled affections, I may worship You in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to Use the Gifts of the Spirit

Breath of Life, on this Pentecost Season we ask that You breathe on us once again. Make our consciences tender to Your touch. We hunger for the life-changing power that Your Holy Spirit brings. May our lives exemplify the fruit of Your Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. May we use the gifts of the Spirit that You have distributed to bless the church and build Your Kingdom on earth. Amen.

Prayer for Health Care Workers

Compassionate God, from the shores of the river Jordan to the steps of the Temple Mount, you have cared for the well-being of your people. Your healing teaches us your compassion for our frailty. Thank you for caring for us no matter our status in this world.

Provide your health care servants rest during wearisome hours of constant demand. Dispense comfort in moments of loss or setback. Grant peace that goes beyond human understanding. In our present surroundings that tempt us to despair, may we all come together as part of your global community and embrace the love of Christ for all precious souls. Help us overcome our fears and unite across all borders of every type to share, manufacture, support and supply knowledge, equipment and resources. Your kingdom is a place of plenty. Let us live in your abundance knowing you provide enough for all. In your mercy, Lord, grant health. Bless those you have called to be your hands and feet in healing and the provision of care. May they always know how thankful we are for their gifts, service and sacrifice.

Hear our prayer, O Lord. Amen.  ~Lyman Smith Chaplain PCUSA
