Psalm 34:17-20

17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.

18 The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

19 The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all;

20 he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken

Feeling overwhelmed?

Most people don’t really need any terrible problem to get down in the dumps sometimes. Disappointment and frustration simply come with the package. We expect deep in our hearts that we will constantly make progress, but reality sets in and sometimes it seems like all we can do is put one foot in front of the other one. Life is a gift, but we all spend our lives looking this gift horse straight in the mouth; because no matter how bad things get, if you can feel overwhelmed, you have to be alive.

Everybody has hard times eventually. We lose our jobs, our spouse runs off with someone else, we develop a chronic disease, we go bankrupt. But Christ promised us that, not only would we get through any tribulation that life can throw at us, but we can also get through the ultimate tribulation. If He overcame death, what can He not overcome?

If you feel like you can’t pick yourself up, don’t try. Christ will do the picking up; all you have to do is ask.

Lord, let me always remember to rely on you, with complete confidence. Amen.

For a New Day

Lord, the newness of this day
Calls me to an untried way;
Let me gladly take the road,
Give me strength to bear my load.
Thou my guide and helper be —
I will travel through with Thee. Amen.

~ Henry Van Dyke.

For those in Need

God of all grace and comfort, hear our prayer for those who are unhappy, who are lonely or neglected, who are damaged or abused, or whose life is darkened by fear or pain or sorrow

Give us grace to help them when we can. Give them faith to look beyond their troubles to you, their heavenly father and unfailing friend, that they make take up the threads of life again and go on their way with fresh courage and renewed hope, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer for the Joy of Companionship

Thank You, Lord, for the joy of companionship and thank You, that You have placed dear friends and Christian companions in each of our lives. What a joy it is to meet and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

But thank You also Lord, that we have such a wonderfully faithful friend in Jesus, who is our never-failing companion, and Who has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. Thank You, that He is with us in every season of life and will never fail us, even during those times when we are forgetful or foolish. Thank You for the daily comfort and precious companionship of the One Who will never let us down.

Thank You, that in Christ we have received newness of life and become a new creation in Him. What a friend we have in Jesus, what joy to know His companionship throughout our earthly life, all praise to His name.  Amen.
