What Holds Us Together

16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. ~ Colossians 1:16-17

Most of us marvel, from time to time, at the miracle of the universe or some part of it. We hear something mind-boggling about the human body or we think about how a human grows from a single fertilized cell. Or we hear that there are 100 billion galaxies, each with 100 billion stars.

By its nature, the world is “without form and void”; what gives it form is God, just like it says in the Bible. God is the one who holds things together, in every sense of the word.

The Bible also tells us that God loves us; He knows who we are. We are important to Him. And one of the things He will hold together, if we put our faith in Him, is us!

So why undo His hard work and tear yourself apart? Everyone has problems; not everyone is smart enough to turn to God with them. There is enough God to go around.

Lord God, let me always turn to you when I am tearing myself apart; for I know that you and you alone have the power to make me whole. Amen ~ M Barge.

What a Great Morning

Holy God, thank you for giving me another morning! I am lucky to be alive on your beautiful planet, so full of marvellous things and the beautiful plants and animals and all the people you have created in your image. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, now and all day long, until I go to sleep, because I want to live with you every minute of this day. The time and opportunities I have right now will never return, so help me make the best of it, Lord.

And let me remember this one thing: You know what you are doing, whether I can see it or not; so I will try to remember today that you are in charge, that you put me here for a reason and that, by your grace, things will turn out with your triumph and the Kingdom of Heaven, for all those who live by your grace. All praise to you forever, Amen.

Infinite Power and Love

Lord God, we entrust to you the families and communities affected by Coronavirus, wherever they may be.

We pray especially for health care workers, that you may guide and protect them.

We pray that your Spirit might inspire those researching new medicines and treatments.

And in the midst of this, keep us strong in faith, hope and love. Grant us the courage and perseverance to be good neighbours.

May the words of your Son Jesus Christ in the Our Father, be our prayer as we entrust ourselves and all of us who are affected to your infinite power and love.

Amen.
