Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Jesus. That is the Name by which you conquer. Jesus. Not as cringing suppliants but as those recognizing a friend, say His Name — Jesus. “Thou shalt call His Name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.”
And in that word “sins” read not only vice and degradation, but doubts, fears, tempers, despondencies, impatience, lack of Love in big and little things. Jesus. “He shall save His people from their sins.” The very uttering of the Name lifts the soul away from petty valley-irritations to mountain heights.
“He shall save His people from their sins.” Savior and Friend, Joy-bringer and Rescuer, Leader and Guide — Jesus. Do you need delivering from cowardice, from adverse circumstances, from poverty, from failure, from weakness?
“There is none other Name . . . whereby you can be saved” — Jesus. Say it often. Claim the Power it brings. Two Listeners
We turn to you, O Crucified Redeemer; converted through your cross, conquering in its sign, transformed by its grace and dying beneath its shadow. Amen. William of Saint-Thierry (c.1085-1148)
Living Lord, stir us up and inspire us through your Spirit to be a people of passion. Make us passionate about sharing your love; make us passionate about welcoming outsiders; make us passionate about helping people in financial need; make us passionate about living out your kingdom values. May we follow Jesus’ example in all we do and may we make a difference in our communities and in the world. Amen.
For Those Who Suffer
God of time and of eternity, in your hands you hold the souls of the righteous, and in your heart there is room for all people; shine forth upon all who are tried in the furnace of suffering and illness, and especially on those for whom I pray today; in your grace and mercy may we know that you watch over us; bring us at the last to abide with you in love; I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For hospital staff and medical researchers
Gracious God, give skill, sympathy and resilience to all who are caring for the sick,
and your wisdom to those searching for a cure. Strengthen them with your Spirit,
that through their work many will be restored to health; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Parting Prayer
O good shepherd, seek me out, and bring me home to your fold again. Deal favourably with me according to your good pleasure, until I may dwell in your house all the days of my life and praise you forever and ever with them that are there. Amen. from a prayer of St. Jerome, 408 A.D.
