The Other Life
S. Lewis wrote: “The moment you wake up each morning, all your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists in shoving it all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other, larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in.”
The identity of “that other voice” is obvious. That other, larger, stronger, quieter life will come to us only from the Lord speaking to us, as we seek Him in prayer. The sooner in the day we call upon the Holy Spirit, the more blessed it will be.
23 During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them. Exodus 2:23-25
Consider the earth! Our globe’s weight has been estimated at six sextillion tons (a six with twenty-one zeroes). Yet it is precisely tilted at twenty-three degrees; any more or any less and our seasons would be lost in a melted polar flood. Though our globe revolves at the rate of one-thousand miles per hour or twenty-five thousand miles per day or nine million miles per year, none of us tumbles into orbit …
As you stand … observing God’s workshop, let me pose a few questions. If he is able to place the stars in their sockets and suspend the sky like a curtain, do you think it is remotely possible that God is able to guide your life? If your God is mighty enough to ignite the sun, could it be that he is mighty enough to light your path? If he cares enough about the planet Saturn to give it rings or Venus to make it sparkle, is there an outside chance that he cares enough about you to meet your needs? from The Great House of God M Lucado
Prayer to Be Filled with Truth
Heavenly Father, thank you for these prayer, scriptures and words of Godly discernment, wisdom and encouragement that you have given us. Help us cling tightly to the truth of Your Word in the Bible and let go of the ideas in the world, our culture and our own thinking. Fill us with your Holy-Spirit love, for we simply don’t have enough love on our own. When we are offended, help us remember Jesus, who was more highly offended, insulted and betrayed than anyone and yet loved to the end. Help us abide in Christ minute by minute, so we may grow the fruit of His Spirit. Amen.
Health workers and medical researchers
Father God, we pray for health workers around the world. We thank you for the skilled and dedicated NHS staff here in the UK. Lord may you sustain and keep them during these times. Grant nurses, doctors and other health professionals, insight and wisdom as they make medical decisions and give them energy and resilience as they work long hours.
Father God, we pray for your blessing upon medical researchers who are searching for a vaccine for the Coronavirus. Give them your wisdom and insight. Speed their work and make it effective in protecting lives. Amen.
Those who are particularly lonely and fearful
God, we thank you that your perfect love casts out all fear. We lift up those in our communities and further afield who are feeling gripped by fear during these times. We pray that where there is fear, your peace may reign. Amen.
Meditation
“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has many; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” ~ Charles Dickens
