6th.October. 2021. Daily Devotion.

For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. ~ Romans 7:22-23

The true Christian is a saint in embryo. The heavenly genes are in him, and the Holy Spirit is working to bring him on into a spiritual development that accords with the nature of the Heavenly Father from whom he received the deposit of divine life. Yet he is here in this mortal body subject to weakness and temptation, and his warfare with the flesh sometimes leads him to do extreme things. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. (Gal. 5:17).

Lord, sometimes I could wish I were not ‘still a child of Adam’s flesh and a son of the red clay.’ But I live in this flesh and realize constantly my total dependence on You for spiritual victory. Grant it today, for Jesus’ sake. Amen. ~ from “Christian Leadership” by A.W. Tozer.

Prayer of St. Patrick

Lord, be with me and all who love you, this day:
Within us to purify us;
Above us to draw us up;
Beneath us to sustain us;
Before us to lead us;
Behind us to restrain us;
Around us to protect us.
In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.   Saint Patrick (389-461 A.D.)

Be a bright flame before us, O God, a guiding star above us, a smooth path below us and a loving shepherd behind us, each day and each night, now and for ever. Amen. Columba of Iona (521-597)

Eternal God, “your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.”
We pray for a fresh vision of the life of heaven
that renews our passion to see your kingdom here on earth.
May we be captivated anew by heaven’s breath-taking beauty:
beauty revealed in glorious worship; worship flowing from a great multitude; a multitude united in celebration of rich diversity; a diversity that embraces all nations, tribes, people and tongues. And so then may our lives re-shape this world.
In the name of Christ. Amen. Inspired by Revelation 7:9-12

Prayer For The Joy Of Companionship

Thank You, Lord, for the joy of companionship and thank You, that You have placed dear friends and Christian companions in each of our lives. What a joy it is to meet and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

But thank You also Lord, that we have such a wonderfully faithful friend in Jesus, who is our never-failing companion, and Who has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. Thank You, that He is with us in every season of life and will never fail us, even during those times when we are forgetful or foolish. Thank You for the daily comfort and precious companionship of the One Who will never let us down.

Thank You, that in Christ we have received newness of life and become a new creation in Him. What a friend we have in Jesus, what joy to know His companionship throughout our earthly life, all praise to His name. Amen.

Benediction

Finally, may I go forth filled with the joy and confidence of your Spirit; and may everything I do this day, in word or deed, be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Amen.
