16th. October. 2020. Daily Devotion.

On Sunday we will be celebrating our October Communion Service during our worship. Think of Psalm 23 in preparation for our worship this weekend.

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

Blessings at God’s table

You prepare a meal for me in front of my enemies. Psalm 23:5
Pause and envision the scene in [God’s] royal dining room … Driven not by our beauty but by his promise, he calls us to himself and invites us to take a permanent place at his table … We take our place next to the other sinners-made-saints and we share in God’s glory. May I share a partial list of what awaits you at his table?
You are beyond condemnation (Romans 8:1).
You are a member of his kingdom (Colossians 1:13).
You have been adopted (Romans 8:15).
You have access to God at any moment (Ephesians 2:18).
You will never be abandoned (Hebrews 13:5).
You have an imperishable inheritance (1 Peter 1:4).

To Submit My Day to God

Almighty God, who has given me life and breath, and another day, I do not know what today might bring. For people make plans, and their plans come to nothing, as you will it. I take today out of my own hands and submit it to your will. Make me your servant today, that I may find my hand at the tasks you have meant for me to do and may I do them as well as I can. For there is nothing better than I should rejoice in my work, to your glory and for the love of my neighbours, as you have commanded us through your Son. In Jesus’ name, I pray, let my day be yours, and let it be filled with goodness and faith. Amen.

Prayer of St. Augustine

Look upon me, O Lord, and let all the darkness of my soul vanish before the beams of thy brightness. Fill me with holy love, and open to me the treasures of thy wisdom. All my desire is known unto thee; therefore, perfect what thou hast begun, and what thy Spirit has awakened me to ask in prayer.

I seek thy face. Turn thy face unto me and show me thy glory. Then shall my longing be satisfied, and my peace shall be perfect. Amen

An intercessory prayer

You call us to speak to you in prayer– even when the places we would usually go to are not available.
Help us to know you Spirit’s presence wherever we pray.
Today we especially pray for those who are living in fear – give them your strength.
For those who have not yet realised the urgency of the situation – protect them, and all of us from harm.
Today I especially wish to pray for …….
In the name of Jesus.  Amen
