Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty firmament! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his surpassing greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! ~ Psalm 150:1-5
God’s people through the ages have loved to make a joyful noise to the Lord. Some of my best worship times have included singing English and Russian church music in Canterbury Cathedral, unaccompanied psalms in the Free Church of Scotland in Prince Edward Island, Moody and Sankey hymns on the Canadian Prairie, Calypso hymns to the accompaniment of steel pan orchestras in Trinidad, and a Capella choirs in Samoan and Cook Island congregations as well as Cymanfa Ganu singing festivals in the Welsh Church in Sydney.
There are so many ways if expressing praise in the sanctuaries of life Whether it’s a flute, banjo, guitar, drums, organ or maybe just our hands, feet, and voices, we can play our music in praise and worship. In jubilation we glorify God, because He is the maker of laughter, joy, dancing feet, beautiful smiles, and voices. God is the omnipotent, holy, and wonderful Music Maker.
Dearest Lord, Thank you for all the instruments, including our voices. Help us to have joy in your presence as we praise you with music. In Your Name, Amen
Prayer for the Morning
God, let your Holy Spirit be powerful to direct my thinking today, so that it be empty of self-pity, dishonesty, self-will, self-seeking and fear. Inspire my thinking, decisions and intuitions. Help me to relax and take it easy. Free me from doubt and indecision. Guide me through this day and show me my next step. God, show me what I need to do to take care of any problems. I ask all these things that I may be of maximum service to you and my fellow man. In the name of my Lord Jesus Christ, I pray.Amen.
Lord of Healing
Lord of my greatest fear: Let in your peace.
Lord of my darkest shame: Let in your grace.
Lord of my oldest grudge: Let in your forgiveness.
Lord of my loneliest moment: Let in your presence.
Lord of my truest self – my all: Let in your fullness.
Amen. ~ Allison Pepper
To Put My Trust in Christ
Lord God, let me not put my trust in the words of men, for their minds are weak and their tongues are tainted by the world. Let me not put my trust in the thoughts of my mind, for I am filled with sin and self-deceit; but let me test everything having to do with faith against our only true teacher, Jesus Christ, and the true Word of God that He inspired the apostles to write in the Bible. In Christ’s name, I pray, Amen.
Prayers For the Sick and Those Giving Care
Faithful Healer of the sick, in your loving mercy, embrace all who are sick in their time of need. Guide the nurses, doctors, and others who attend them. Use their skills to restore each one to health and joy for the service of Christ our Saviour. Amen. —
For Those Who Work for Healing
God of compassion, who in Jesus Christ healed the sick, bless all who continue your work of healing. Enhance their skills, and deepen their understanding, that through their ministry those who suffer may be restored to fullness of health, for the sake of Christ our Lord. Amen. — PC USA Book of Common Worship.
