North Queensferry Church

16th. August. 2021. Daily Devotion.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:9-10

There is nothing in our lives than can take the place of persistence. As Thomas Edison said, “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.” Neither talent nor intelligence can bring success without persistence. How many intelligent and talented people make no really good use of their gift, because they cannot stick to something worthwhile? Determination and persistence are the keys to getting anything done, and God’s work is no different.

So think seriously about doing something that will galvanize your faith. Do something you’ve never done. Go to a new class or attend a weekend meeting. Read a book about Christ, of a kind or on a subject you have never really thought about. Watch a faith-based movie or go to another church one Sunday.  M. Barge.

Lord, renew your Spirit in me, that I might never tire of doing your will. Amen.

Prayer of Praise (from Isaiah 45)

You are the Lord, and there is no other; apart from You there is no God. From the rising to the setting of the sun, I know there is none besides You. You formed the earth; You made the earth to be inhabited, and you created me in your image to dwell upon it. All praise to the great Creator: You are the Lord, and there is no other. Amen.

Prayer of Resolve

I bind myself to you this day, O Christ, in your truth and in your sacrifice. I give to you my anxiety and my fear, my depression and my doubt, for you have promised to take them if we only ask; and I take upon myself your burden, for it is light and your way is gentle. May I keep this in my heart and mind all this day. Amen.

Prayer for Healing

Compassionate God, your Son gives rest to those weary with heavy burdens. Heal the sick in body, mind, and spirit. Lift up the depressed. Befriend those who grieve. Comfort the anxious. Stand with all victims of abuse and violence. Uphold those who live with addiction. Fill us all with your Holy Spirit that we may bear each other’s burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ. God of mercy, hear our prayer. Amen. — From the Book of Common Worship, PCUSA

Knowing the Answers

We live by revelation, as Christians, as artists, which means we must be careful never to get set into rigid moulds. The minute we begin to think we know all the answers, we forget the questions, and we become smug like the Pharisee who listed all his considerable virtues, and thanked God that he was not like other men. ~ Amy Carmichael
