4th.October. 2021. Daily Devotion.

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.~ 2 Peter 3:8

Eternity

Only two things on earth will go into eternity—God’s Word and people. God has placed us here to grow in Christ and to reproduce the life of Christ in others. Each of us has specific opportunities to do this in our own spheres of influence, and as we abide in Christ and let His words abide in us, we will bear lasting fruit (John 15:7-8),and the living God will confirm the work of our hands.

Paul had only two days on his calendar: “today” and “that day” (the day he would be with the Lord). He had a heart of wisdom because he lived each today in light of that day. Because he daily reminded himself of the real purpose for his sojourn on earth, he cultivated an eternal perspective that influenced all his work and all his relationships. In 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, he summarized the vision that determined the course of his life:

“For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” ~Ken Boa.

Lord, let me always live for eternity. Amen.

Turn Thy Face Unto Us

Look upon us, O Lord, and let all the darkness of our souls vanish before the beams of thy brightness.

Fill us with holy love, and open to us the treasures of thy wisdom. All our desire is known unto thee, therefore perfect what thou hast begun, and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer.

We seek thy face, turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory. Then shall our longing be satisfied, and our peace shall be perfect. Amen.(St.) Augustine of Hippo, 400 A.D.

Prayer for Today

Lord our God, we are your children, who come before you and stand in your presence. Be with us and be our light in all situations of life, in all hardships and grief. Be our light, as you have always been. Reveal your power so that the world may know you as we have come to know you. Give us joyful readiness to persevere until your day comes, for the brightness of your day will shine through all darkness and will end all evil, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Prayer for the Evening

I bless you for the day you have given me, Mighty Lord God, and pray that I have pleased you with some of my actions today, and that where I strayed, you will for give me and assist me to do better tomorrow. I pray for your Holy Spirit to fill me with the joy of my salvation, so that your light may shine through me into the world, that your honor and glory may be known to all people.

2.  Remind me of your blessings, I pray, with every tribulation I may face, so that I may act with energy, forgiveness and love, ever mindful of the grace You have shown tome. Through Christ I pray, Amen
