Church building
The present building was opened in 1963. Before this, the church was in a stone building dating from 1878, at the foot of the Brae. By the 1960’s the old building had deteriorated beyond economic repair. The problem is said to have involved the roof, but there are apparent references to boiler trouble, damage by blasting during work on the new road bridge and possibly woodworm as well.
The interior of the church is light and airy. As well as this main “body of the kirk” there is an adjacent church hall, kitchen, vestry and toilets.
One survivor from the old church is the Ypres Bell. This was donated to the church in 1926, to commemorate the fallen of the Great War. 1926 saw the erection of the Menin Gate and St George’s Chapel memorials in Ypres.History
