Messy Church 2020

Sadly there will be no Easter Messy Church this year as it has had to be cancelled.

Like us, St Andrew Blackadder Church in North Berwick had to cancel their Easter Messy Church but they have kindly shared with us some activities which you might like to try.

Easter Craft Challenge!!

Below are the details and instructions of some craft activities . Why not do them together at home and send us pictures of all the lovely things you made?!

The last craft is a Make-your-own Easter craft/baking challenge. Send us pictures of what you created or made and prizes will be awarded.

Send pictures to us at: pollyrob55@btinternet .com

Thinking of you all.
Love, The Messy Team

Last Supper colouring page

You’ll need: crayons/pencils /pens.

Link: https://sundayschoolzone.com/activity/the-last-supper-coloring-page/view/

At the Last Supper Jesus told His disciples he was going to die. He used the bread and wine at the table to signify His body and blood, broke the bread and shared the wine, and ask them to do this again to remember Him. Jesus promises to always be with us. During the Last Supper, Jesus said, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.” (John 14:1)

Create a colourful cross scene

You’ll need: wax crayons or colour pencils, white card, sheet of white paper.

Link: http://www.housingaforest.com/colorful-light-ray-cross/

Instructions: Cut the white card into a cross shape. Place the cross stencil on the sheet of white paper. Around the cross, make inch lengths of colour along the edge using your crayons or pencils. Using your finger, push the colour away from the card cross. Remove the cross to reveal the picture! Add background pictures or colours if you like.

The cross is so special for Christians – Jesus died on the cross, giving His life to take away our sins. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Resurrection craft – see how the stone was rolled away!

You’ll need: glue, scissors, coloured paper – blue, grey, black and yellow, butterfly clip

Link: https://happyhomefairy.com/2-easy-easter-paper-crafts/

Instructions: create a scene of the empty tomb – stick the shapes onto the blue paper. Use the butterfly clip to fasten the stone to the top of the tomb.

After Jesus was crucified on Good Friday, His body was laid in a tomb and a large stone was rolled in front of it. On the 3rd day (Easter Sunday), Mary went to the tomb and found the stone was rolled away – Jesus had risen!

“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” (Matthew 28:6)

Easter memory game

You’ll need: several random items around the house (5-10 depending on the age of your children) that all fit onto one tray. Tea towel to cover the tray. Chocolate eggs as prizes.

Instructions: Ask your child to look at the items on the tray and try to remember as many as possible. Then cover the tray with a tea towel and see if how many they can recall! Share the chocolate eggs as a prize.

We give chocolate eggs at Easter to signify the stone that was rolled away – and new life which Jesus brings with His resurrection. At Easter we remember that Jesus loved us so much that he died for us and now nothing can separate us from His love.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Big Web game

You’ll need: chairs, ball of wool Instructions: Use the ball of wool to weave a webbed pattern using the legs of chairs. Challenge your child to get from one side to the next by climbing under/over and through it.

The wool is like Jesus’ love which ties us all together, a bit like a web, and creates a church family. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)

Make-your-own Easter craft or Easter baking challenge!

You’ll need: Whatever craft or recycling items, baking ingredients. Links: You can find some great ideas on Pinterest or make up something new!

Instructions: Use what you can find in your craft supplies, recycling and around the house to create your own Easter craft or make something edible. Share your pictures with us via email or Facebook. We’ll show the pictures when we next meet for Messy Church and award prizes!

Easter Eggs!!

This year we had hoped to have another Easter Egg Hunt, however instead we are leaving Easter Eggs on the door steps of those children for whom we have addresses. The eggs will come with a booklet containing stories and puzzles about Easter. We hope that you enjoy them.
